DIY {EASY} Elderberry Syrup

This lovely Elderberry Syrup Kit is conveniently located on amazon! For a busy working momma like me, this kit made is SUPER easy to DIY this syrup. This mix also includes the immune boosting power of echinacea, rose hips, astragalus, and Goji Berry (plus clove and ginger)! Making your own syrup is a great way to save money and keep your family’s immune system strong.

We are at the peak of cold and flu season and with Maddie being exposed to extra germs at daycare, she has been sick frequently. I give her a tsp of the syrup a day and if she is sick, up to 3 tsp/day.

This syrup is super easy to make. I added two cups of water to a medium saucepan and added in the elderberry syrup kit contents. I brought the liquid mixture to a boil and then lowered the heat to simmer. You want to reduce the liquid to about half, which took about 10 mins. After the mixture is strained and cooled I added in 3 tbsp of local honey. This can be stored in an airtight container in your fridge for up to 3 weeks!

If you have a little one under one, I would suggest using maple syrup instead and consult with your pediatrician 🙂

So what is elderberry you ask? Elderberry is a powerful fruit packed with antioxidants and has been historically used to fight colds, the flu and common sinus infections! Elderberry has inflammatory and virus fighting benefits. Make sure you are also getting plenty of sleep and eating organic whole foods so this berry can do it’s job this cold and flu season. 😉

PS – I tried making these into gummies with grass-fed beef gelatin but failed miserably because they turned out more like jello lol. Stay tuned for a perfected recipe on elderberry gummies.
